I sat down last night and watched the SuperClásico match between LA/Chivas trying to gauge what is going to happen this Thursday night when our beloved Union face the LA Galaxy. The game was entertaining to say the least, especially when Alan Gordon was cleated in the chest and his shirt ripped open showing the wounds. It was Sun, Jan 3rd, and I had just spent my last ounce of hung-over energy in relocating myself from my couch to my desk and fired-up my laptop. Naturally, the first thing I did was to start trying to gather any news that the New Year brought regarding the Philadelphia Union. In the course of my browsing, I ended up on SonsofBen.com where I proceeded to read the Code of Conduct and information about joining probably at least 100 times. No matter how many times I read it and how much I wanted to follow through, my attention kept shifting focus to an article that I had just opened; the subject of the article: MLS Collective Bargaining Agreement Meetings, the outlook: bleak.

Locals don’t talk about Lamar Hunt the same way they talk about Walter Bahr or other Philadelphia soccer legends, but for the second time in pro soccer history, Mr. Hunt is one of the reasons why the area has a team. The Atoms were founded by Philadelphia construction mogul Thomas McCloskey in 1973 at the urging of Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Tornado owner Lamar Hunt during a Super Bowl.
