Long-time SoB chronicler Steven Wells died Tuesday after a battle with cancer. While many people have helped us fly the SoB kite higher and higher these last few years, he was the person that threw it up in the air.

He wrote about us in Philadelphia Weekly, FourFourTwo, and The Guardian…apart from a small little blurb in Sports Illustrated he was the source of all our solid media credits for months. He was at our first tailgate – he took the well-known picture of all of us there. He saw what we were really doing and what we were capable of doing before any of us did, I think. He gave us relevance.

There’s really not much you can say. Even almost 24 hours later…

It was a game that even 10-15 minutes in, you had a feeling that there was a definite shot at bringing the European Champions down a peg. Could we survive the rough patches? The fatigue? The risky nature of hard tackling? The overwhelming answer was yes. There was not one player that started that game that deserved any less than what they got today – a win for the ages. Everywhere you look – the Guardian, BBC, ESPN – there’s nothing but respect for these guys and a belief that anything can happen come Sunday. It’s amazing what can happen when you keep 11 guys on the field (okay, okay…Bradley was sent off in the 86th minute but still).
